How do I connect my filter pump and heat pump to my swimming pool?

How do I connect my filter pump and heat pump to my pool?

Do you have an EXIT swimming pool with a cartridge filter pump, a sand filter pump or one of these pumps in combination with a heat pump? And are you struggling with how to connect the added hoses? With the action plan and the instruction images in this blog, connecting your swimming pool pump(s) is a piece of cake!

Before you start

We recommend connecting your swimming pool pump(s) while you’re filling the pool, before the water reaches the lowest connection in the swimming pool wall. We understand that you can’t wait to dive in, but connecting the hoses is easier done above water! Would you still like to connect your filter pump and possible heat pump later? Then ask someone to help, so one of you can hold up the hoses that are connected to the swimming pool, so the pool doesn’t run empty.

Good to know in advance: both the cartridge filter pump and the sand filter pump are delivered with two hoses. One to allow the water to run from your swimming pool to the pump and one to let the filtered water return to the pool. These hoses are identical; it doesn’t matter which hose you use where. Do you also have a heat pump? Then there’s an extra hose to connect. This hose is delivered with the heat pump and might look a little different, but the same thing applies: it doesn’t matter which hose you use where.

Below you can read and see how you connect the hoses. In addition to the direction of the hoses in each image you can see the direction of the water, indicated with green arrows.

Connecting a swimming pool cartridge filter pump

How do I connect my filter pump and heat pump to my swimming pool?

Step 1

Make sure that the filter pump sits on a firm and solid surface, place a cartridge in the filter pump and connect the added pump parts as described in the manual.

Step 2

Attach one of the connecting hoses with one side to the lowest connection in the swimming pool wall (the ‘swimming pool outlet’) and the other side to the highest connection of the filter pump. Do this by means of the added clamps. Through this hose, the water will flow from your swimming pool to the filter pump.

Step 3

Attach the second connecting hose with one side to the highest connection in the swimming pool wall (the ‘swimming pool inlet’) and the other side to the lowest connection of the filter pump. For this you also use the added clamps. Through this hose, the filtered water goes back into the swimming pool.

Step 4

Make sure that there are no air bubbles in the cartridge filter pump: Open the screw on top of the pump slightly until water comes out. Then close the screw again. This is also called ‘venting’.

Connecting a cartridge filter pump and a heat pump

How do I connect my filter pump and heat pump to my swimming pool?

Step 1

Follow the instructions for connecting the cartridge filter pump (situation 1) to step 2. Place the heat pump on a solid surface and ensure that air can be blown out of the pump at the front. Next, screw the supplied nozzles (‘hose posts’) onto the connections of the heat pump. When doing this, don’t forget the sealing rings that belong in the hose nozzles.

Step 2

Attach the second connection hose with one side to the lowest connection of the filter pump and the other side to the lowest connection of the heat pump. Do this with the added clamps. Through this hose the water runs to your heat pump.

Step 3

Attach the third connection hose with one side to the highest connection in the swimming pool wall (the ‘swimming pool inlet’) and the other side to the highest connection of the heat pump. For this you also use the added clamps. Through this hose the filtered and heated water flows back into your swimming pool.

Step 4

Make sure that there are no air bubbles in the cartridge filter pump: Open the screw on top of the pump slightly until water comes out. Then close the screw again.

Connecting a swimming pool sand filter pump

How do I connect my filter pump and heat pump to my swimming pool?

Step 1

Make sure that the filter pump sits on a solid and even surface, put sand in the pump and follow the instructions as described in the manual.

Step 2

Attach one of the connection hoses with one side to the lowest connection in the swimming pool wall (the ‘swimming pool outlet’ and the other side to the lowest connection of the filter pump. Do this with the added clamps. Through this hose, the water goes from your swimming pool to the filter pump.

Step 3

Attach the second hose with one side to the highest connection in the swimming pool wall (the ‘swimming pool inlet’) and the other side to the highest connection of the filter pump. For this you also use the added clamps. Through this hose the filtered water runs back into the swimming pool.

Connecting a sand filter pump and a heat pump

How do I connect my filter pump and heat pump to my swimming pool?

Step 1

Follow the instructions for connecting the sand filter pump (situation 3) to step 2. Place the heat pump on a solid surface and ensure that air can be blown out of the pump at the front. Subsequently screw the enclosed nozzles (‘hose posts’) onto the connections of the heat pump. When doing this, don’t forget the sealing rings that belong in the hose nozzles.

Step 2

Attach the second connection hose with one side to the highest connection of the filter pump and the other side to the lowest connection of the heat pump. Secure with the added clamps. Through this hose the filtered water goes to your heat pump.

Step 3

Attach the third connection hose with one side to the highest connection of the swimming pool (the ‘swimming pool inlet’) and the other side to the highest connection of the heat pump. Again, attach a clamp to each side of this hose. Through this hose the filtered and heated water flows back into your swimming pool.

Make things easy for yourself with stop plugs

Is your pool fully filled and do you want to avoid water leakage while connecting your swimming pool pump(s)? Then attach each hose to the pool side first and - while someone else holds the hoses up - remove the adapters from the inside of the pool. Place plugs here. These are supplied with the pool. Subsequently you can easily attach the hoses to the swimming pool pump(s) without turning your garden into a swimming pool!
