Buying a swing: how do you choose?

From those first gentle pushes to swinging side by side, a swing brings plenty of outdoor playtime to your garden. But which model suits your family? These five questions will help you get started.

1. How much space do you have in your garden?

Even a smaller garden often has room for swinging fun. Before you choose, check both the dimensions of the equipment and the clear space needed for swinging.

• Small garden: take a look at a compact swing, such as the EXIT Silvi wooden swing wall mount. Want to combine swinging with climbing? The GetSet monkeybar MB110 wall mount is another option. These models attach to a suitable wall and must be anchored according to the manual.

Tip: leave enough clear space around the swing

Measure the space in front of, behind and beside the equipment too. A compact frame doesn't necessarily mean you need little space for swinging. Keep the safety area specified in the manual clear of obstacles and choose a suitable surface.

2. How old are the children who will use the swing?

From their first swinging movements to learning how to keep themselves going, choose a swing that suits your child's age and stage of development.

The EXIT Silvi wooden swing that grows with you is suitable from 12 months. Start with the baby seat and the frame in its low position. This baby position is intended for children aged 12 to 36 months, with a maximum user weight of 12 kg. From the age of 3, your child can continue swinging in the higher junior position with the regular swing seat. The swinging fun grows along with them!

The Silvi wooden swing set and Silvi wooden swing wall mount are suitable from the age of 3. The Ivy range also includes play equipment for children aged 3 and over. Always check the minimum age, maximum user weight and conditions of use for the accessories on your chosen model. GetSet sports equipment, for example, is intended for users aged 14 and over.

3. What height suits your garden and your child?

When choosing, consider the height of the equipment and whether the swing seat is adjustable. The EXIT Toys range includes various heights:

• Silvi: the swing that grows with your child has a low baby position of 131 cm and a junior position of 198 cm. The Silvi wooden swing set and Silvi wooden swing wall mount are also 198 cm high.
• Ivy: the Ivy swing set is 204.5 cm high.
• GetSet: the GetSet monkeybars have a taller frame. The MB110 wall mount and MB210, for example, are 248 cm high.

These measurements give the total height of the equipment mentioned. For combinations with a play tower or monkeybar, for example, always check the dimensions of the complete model. Also check the required clear space above and around the equipment.

4. Which play options will you choose?

Swinging is an adventure in itself. Add extra play features and there's even more to discover. What gets your child excited?

• A swing with a slide: climb up, whizz down and race back for another go!
• A gym bar: hang, turn and practise a new move.
• A monkeybar or climbing net: for children who love climbing, clambering and working out their next move.
• A nest swing: enjoy swinging back and forth on a spacious seat. Check how many children can use your chosen combination and its maximum user weight.

Double swings: enjoy twice the fun together

Swinging is even more fun together. With a double swing, children each have their own seat and can swing back and forth at the same time. Ideal for siblings or for when friends often come over to play!
