How to choose the right pool pump

To find the right pool pump, start by calculating the volume of your pool. Multiply the length, width and average depth to find out how many cubic metres (m³) of water it holds. For example: a round pool with a 3-metre diameter and 0.76-metre depth holds about 5 m³ of water. A rectangular pool measuring 4 metres by 2 metres with a 1-metre depth holds about 8 m³.

For smaller pools up to around 7 m³, a cartridge pool pump is usually the most practical and affordable option. These pumps are compact and keep the water clean with little effort. For larger pools of 7 m³ or more, a sand pool pump or one with filter wadding is the better choice. These pumps have greater capacity and can run for longer without clogging.
