What is the difference between a cartridge filter pump and a sand filter pump?

At EXIT Toys, we have both cartridge filter pumps and sand filter pumps to keep your swimming pool water clean and circulating. What are the differences between these two pumps? EXIT Toys explains:

A refreshing dip in your swimming pool

A cartridge filter pump or a sand filter pump are ideal aids to keep the water in your swimming pool clean. The cartridges, the special filter sand or the filter wadding in the pumps filter out impurities like insects and leaves from the water. The sand filter pump extracts even smaller particles from water: no impurity larger than a grain of sand has any chance of getting into the swimming pool water.

Exit pumps also keep water circulating to counteract the development of bacteria, mould and algae. With heavy use of a swimming pool, it is wise to have filter pumps working constantly, even at night. However, we do recommend turning pumps off when the pool is in use. Curious to know other ways of keeping your pool clean? Then read our blog about keeping your swimming pool clean.

Different maintenance requirements

As the filter pump works for you day and night, it's necessary to regularly clean or replace the cartridges or the sand. How often depends on the type of pump. With heavy use, it's best to replace the pump's filter cartridge every week and clean it in between times. If you regularly clean the sand filter pump with it's backwash function, then the filter sand is certainly good for six months.

In a cartridge filter pump as well as a sand filter pump you can use filter wadding. These last incredibly long. Because you can easily rinse out the filter wadding yourself, they only need to be replaced after two to three years. For clean water we recommend washing the filter wadding every two weeks (without detergent or fabric softener), especially during the summer period. That way you’ll enjoy crystal-clear swimming pool water all summer long.

More than just a pool filter

A cartridge filter pump is easy to connect and does exactly what it's intended to do: filter water and keep it circulating. A sand filter pump has various settings that offer other possibilities. Besides filtering you can for example also clean the filter sand via the backwash function (Please note: you can’t use this function with the filter wadding) and drain away the swimming pool water. And you can easily connect a heat pump, or some other swimming pool accessory. So it's a multi-functional pump too! Read more about the various sand filter pump settings.

Whichever you choose, the most important thing is that the filter pump keeps your swimming pool water clean, and EXIT Toys is the right address for these filter pumps. This way, you always have a refreshing dip in your EXIT swimming pool! Check out our offer of swimming pools with filter pumps.
